South American Mission Society

SAMS works in partnership with the Anglican Church in South America, Spain and Portugal. In response to requests from the Dioceses it will send personnel with specific training and expertise to be involved alongside national initiatives in new church plants, church work and outreach; with youth, theological education, bible translation, church schools and teacher training.

In many dioceses SAMS participates in work with marginalised groups in education, literacy, medical, vocational and community projects and in Ecuador with AIDS orphans. In northern Argentina and Paraguay it is also concerned for the land right of groups indigenous to the Chaco.

In Chile, Argentina and Peru SAMS also supports national clergy in key leadership positions and also a Chilean family pastoring the church in Seville, Spain.

All Saints have had close connections with the South American Mission Society for a number of years.

For many years we supported Joyce Illingworth with her work in Argentina, inotially in the Salta area and later in Buenos Aires. Since returning to England, Joyce has been living in Ilkley and worshiping at All Saints.

More recently we supported All Saints member Alison Hawksley as she worked with SAMS in Arequipa, Peru. Alison has now returned to England and is working in a School in Leeds.
