Church gives their heart away for Valentine’s
Members of All Saints’, Ilkley will be taking to the streets to give shoppers a gift of a chocolate heart wrapped in appropriate red foil. The hearts will carry a message speaking of God’s love for the community (and also details of special services at the church).
A church in Ilkley plans to literally give hearts away to the town of Ilkley this Valentine’s.
Members of All Saints’, Ilkley will be taking to the streets to give shoppers a gift of a chocolate heart wrapped in appropriate red foil. The hearts will carry a message speaking of God’s love for the community (and also details of special services at the church).
The idea is part of a year long campaign from All Saints’ called ‘Love Ilkley’.
That campaign is designed, in practical ways, to show that the church deeply cares for the people of the town and surrounding areas. Every month there will be a giveaway of some description. At Christmas special DVD’s were given away as well as Christmas candles. It is planned to give away bottled water (with messages of hope on the labels) in the summer, giveaway time to tender older residents gardens in the autumn, give packets of sunflower seeds in spring (again with messages on the packaging) and a number of other monthly things.
The Reverend Lee Townend, leader of All Saints’, said “The aim of ‘Love Ilkley’ is to share the Good News of Jesus in simple ways. People will hear that we have something wonderful to offer when they see the church in action. What better way to tell an elderly, housebound person that God cares for them by doing something loving for them – who knows where that might lead. Likewise giving away chocolate hearts at Valentines is a simple way of saying ‘God loves you’.”
